The point is that as a 100% bespoke operation, the price for apparently similar cabinetry can vary widely according to the options chosen - the specification.
In a world where retail models are up-ending and dubious claims are presented as desireable qualities (no veneer in 'ere) we believe our pricing model is as it should be for bespoke furniture.
Below are shown three drawer units: Cabinets A, B and C. Drawer units are useful for comparision as they comprise many parts what with all the drawer boxes and fittings. The overall sizes for the units are the same at 900mm wide, 900mm high and 600mm deep and they feature four drawers.
We can see that for the same sized unit with the same function, the price ranges from £502 to £940. The difference is due to materials and specification.
Cabinet A uses our cheapest material, unfinished MDF. Our cheapest material is still a premium product as far as MDF goes and we consider a drawer unit using unfinished MDF to be an 'ingredient'. So rather than being a standalone unit, this would be built into an overall design and MDF is specified because it will be finished with paint or lacquer to match whatever it is being installed into.
If you are looking for a standalone unit, this spec would not be our recommendation.
For standalone units, Cabinet B is more appropriate. This uses melamine materials (MFC) so looks attractive and is a finished material. The drawer runners are Blum Movento which gives the slow closing or push to open drawer action.
Cabinet C has a specification chosen to illustrate the range of customisation possible:
Frontages made from a high gloss lacquered MDF and carcass from real wood veneered MDF
Drawer boxes made from veneered Walnut
Blum Movento drawers with push to open and Blumotion opening action combined
Back panel made from Cedar of Lebanon to give the unit a pleasant smell when opened
The range of different premium materials used in this cabinet pushes the price up but the end result is something very high end.

Cabinets B & C use premium Blum Movento drawer runners. There is a widely held belief in the furniture industry that a premium drawer runner is for the kitchen and bedroom furniture can use a lower end drawer system. The component price difference can be vast. For example Ikea have one particular complete three drawer unit than they sell for less than the trade cost of three Blum Movento drawer runners!
Because our pricing reflects the materials and fittings chosen, it means we can offer the flagship ranges from our suppliers. Fitted furniture company claims like 'free soft close hinges on all doors' are meaningless in our pricing model (and perhaps they are meaningless in any world as the cost needs to come from somewhere!)
And back to the drawer unit example, control over the specification means that units are appropriate for their installation location - kitchen units for kitchens, bedroom units for bedrooms. This avoids mistakes such as metal side-mount drawer runners that we would use for office filing units appearing in the bedroom!
Ballpark figures considered dangerous
The above shows how giving 'ballpark' figures is unwise for any bespoke manufacturer. One of the companies we work with who make laminates say "Sorry no ballparks" which is a completely understandable position!
It can also cut the other way. Sometimes we have been given a specification (more like a shopping list) for Cabinet C, the customer decides not to proceed and on following up we learn that they have bought Cabinet A from someone else for 30% less than the cost of Cabinet C whereas from us Cabinet A is 50% less!
The ballpark figure (for the mis-specified thing) has caused the customer to get a less than ideal outcome.
