Throughly Simple

When we created our service in 2012 we set out to automate the process of creating bespoke furniture. We wanted to simplify it using the advances in automated machinery and the willingness for end-users to use their web browsers to create the design.

Getting a machine to drill a hinge hole is not difficult - just command it with an x and y coordinate and specify the drill size and depth. That’s the “simple” part but the “thorough” part is:

  • matching the hinge hole to a hinge plate on the cabinet side
  • match the drilling pattern to the particular hinge to suit the customer’s needs e.g. slow closing, push to open, wide angle
  • ensure the particular hinge gets manifested to a list of parts
  • ensure the correct screws get included in the fittings packs

There are lots of companies that can produce lovely fitted furniture but they struggle with bespoke instructions. This can be a problem at installation time where the head-scratching or missing parts chasing costs time and money.
